Meet Mattia Visconti, Shanghai’s Busiest Impresario

Mattia Visconti is the man responsible for all those Pervert, French Decadence and Flower Power parties around town. We caught up with the kinky organizer to find out about the inspiration behind his gigs.
How many parties do you run these days?
I’m doing three parties a month–an Italian one at Bar Rouge, which is Italo disco and an Italian DJ, I do a French Decadence party, also at Bar Rouge, and then I usually put on either Flower Power, Miss Behave or my new one, the Diamond Party, which we did at Chinatown for New Year. I also do five or six Pervert Parties a year.
How do you manage to pack out every event?
I just have a big network of friends. I came over here to open MAO and ran the club for a year. Every night I was just meeting dozens of people–Italian, like me, but also all the people who like to go out to parties in Shanghai.
Where’s your favorite place to put on parties?
I like unconventional spaces, but it’s so tough to find good people to help you put on parties there. I did a cyberpunk event with Riviera Events last year in a warehouse on The Bund. The building wasn’t totally renovated and had a great terrace with an excellent view. We also did a Miss Behave on a Dragon Boat that attracted almost 1,000 people. It was a huge boat.
We want Pervert Parties to be racier.
