Braised Tofu sticks

RECIPE
1. Soak your tofu sticks in cold water overnight. (put a plate on top to make sure they're totally submerged in water)
2. Braise for 40 minutes in mixture of :
5T soy sauce
2T sugar
3T sake (or Shaoxing ricewine)
3 slice of fresh ginger
2 star anise
1 cassia stick (or cinnamon)
1 dried chile
Topped with water.
3. Remove the sticks, reduce the liquid and/or thicken it with cornstarch. Be carefull not to reduce it too much or it will get too salty. Add back the tofu sticks.
Enjoy, warm, cold or lukewarm.
I added some dried shii-take mushrooms too.
I didn't think I would like this, but I did. Of coarse it can't compete with a juice steak, but I enjoyed it.
